What is resourcing?
Resourcing helps connect you with positive memories and positive skills that you already have and might be difficult to connect to now. It helps to increase your capacity to cope, to connect with positive adaptive information, and to be present for yourself and for others.
Resources can be internal or external. External resources can include connection to family or friends, social supports, community groups, pets, calming or enjoyable places, and positive therapeutic relationships. Internal resources can include positive memories, qualities, skills, values, beliefs, life purpose, and spiritual or religious beliefs.
What will I need?
· Good enough internet connection for virtual groups
· Colored pencils, pens, or crayons
· Printed worksheet or 1-3 sheets of paper (we will demonstrate how to draw it)
· Sign the Informed consent form and liability waiver prior to the workshop
· An anchor object, such as a wrist band, hair tie, sticker, small stone, or something small that you can carry with you that already has a special significance
· Beneficial: water or something enjoyable to drink, gum or candy
What does G-REP look like for me as a participant?
· You will be led through 6 exercises to develop 6 different resources.
· We will start with a calming exercise.
· Some exercises will involve drawing or doodling or writing down words, whatever works best for you. This can be stick figures. You are encouraged to use colored pencils or crayons in any way you want. You will not be sharing your worksheet with anyone.
· Some resources will be strengthened using a butterfly hug, which we will demonstrate.
· You will be invited to share positive resources, if you would like.
· You will not be invited to share any information related to the trauma. We will not be doing any work to address any of the memories of bad things that have happened. We will offer resources about how to do that at a future time.
· Confidentiality is asked of all participants. Although this workshop is being offered through your workplace, no information will be shared with your workplace.
· This is viewed as guided self-help and will be primarily private and internal. There will be no discussions facilitated.
· You can take a break at any time.
· Options for managing distress can be taking a few breaths, focusing on positive material, looking around the room to connect to the present moment, and utilizing other skills that have previously been helpful.
· You can alert providers for the need for individual support by signaling to a provider through the chat that is not currently guiding the process for the group.
· We will guide you through how to use your anchor object as a reminder of your developed resources to help reduce your stress level when needed. If you don’t use an object, we will guide you through other ways to remind yourself of your resources after the workshop.
